Eugene Atget... Beauty through the lens. Con't

This image (left) taken by Atget is titled, “Parc de Sceaux.” The beauty of this image stems from the amount of character shown by the park. The shadows of the trees in contrast to the brightness of the sky add a dark feeling when the picture is viewed. The image itself is a golden hue, not because of the camera or its film, but rather because of the way that it has been developed. I attempted to replicate that “dark” feel in the image by taking a picture (below) of St. James park during a foggy day. Instead of decreasing the saturation to match Atget’s picture, I chose to increase the saturation, which in turn, captured the natural unsaturated colors of the scene. I also, to add effect, I increased the sharpness setting to capture the detail of the plants. The result was that both images are both dark, but still show and emphasize on the beauty of the park.

This image (right) was titled,Rue Guerin Boisseau.” A vast majority of his images were of very narrow streets and sidewalks. Since the streets of Toronto are much larger, to simulate narrow paths I zoomed my lens out, and put more emphasis on any objects to the sides of the path. This made the streets look much smaller than they really were. These were the results taken downtown toronto.
